MOUNT VERNON UMC
At Mount Vernon United Methodist Church we are a group of people who have experienced the life-changing love of Jesus Christ. Because of the grace that we have received through Christ, we seek to be a light of love and grace to others in the West Side community. We find the source of our strength in knowing and following Jesus, and work to actively steward our church in a way to draw others to join us on a life-changing journey with Christ. We do this through our Sunday morning worship services, serving our community through our various ministries, and fostering a place where all are welcome, regardless of background and faith.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
At Mount Vernon, we are members of the United Methodist Church- part of the second largest Protestant denomination in the United States. We are global, connectional, inclusive, grounded in Scripture, Wesleyan, concerned about social justice, mission-oriented, and ecumenical.
As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church’s life and witness. WHAT WE BELIEVE
God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons.
We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrates God's redeeming love.
The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, God's challenge, or God's support or comfort, it's the Holy Spirit at work.
Genesis 1:27 asserts that we've been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.
The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.
The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
